About:

Definition:

ABIOTIC
Physical rather than biological, i.e. not derived from living organisms.
(EESC ’11)

ABIOTIC COMPONENTS
The non-living components of the biosphere.
Chemical and geological factors, such as rocks and minerals, and physical factors, such as temperature and weather, are referred to as abiotic components.
(GreenSpec AEP ’09)

ABIOTIC DEPLETION (AD)
Refers to the exhaustion of natural (non-living) resources such as iron ore, copper and fossil fuels.
(GreenSpec AEP ’09)

ABIOTIC RESOURCE DEPLETION POTENTIAL (ADP)
(
ERFMI ’08)

Relevance to Sustainable Construction:

The UK Construction Industry consumes 400m tonnes of materials per annum and waste 80m tonnes a considerable amount going to landfill.
The UK Goverment has set REAP into action but at the same time removed all of WRAPs funding for construction sector and removed the Site Waste Management Plan requirements from law after only 10 years in play.
